Gardener Authorization and Responsibilities
These guidelines have been established by Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) and are provided to the property owner (City of Golden) as a basis for a use agreement between the two parties. In turn, DUG provides gardeners with the authority and permission to use the garden site. As a community, we have a responsibility to keep our community garden managed effectively. The community garden is a privilege, and everything works more smoothly when people are involved in its overall upkeep. Please also remember to treat your fellow gardeners as you would like to be treated. With your signatures below, you acknowledge your responsibility for the following:
I will contribute volunteer time by attending 2 of the organized work days per plot, or by contributing 8 hours individually and/or serving on a garden committee. *
Volunteer opportunities are listed in the "Get Involved Section". Failure to contribute your hours will result in the loss of gardening privileges.
I will submit dues on or before April 22nd 2019. *
$100 for a 10' x 20' plot or $50 for a 10' x 10' plot
If I cannot care for my garden, I will notify garden leadership and make arrangements with other gardeners to water and maintain my plot during my absence. *
If a garden appears neglected/abandoned (produce rotting in plot, unwatered, unkempt, or overrun with invasive or seeding weeds), you will be given seven (7) days notice to fix and maintain your plot. After this time your plot will be re-assigned. Agreeing to use your produce includes leaving unwanted produce in the donation bin by the pavilion or reaching out to the Together Church in the garden directory to harvest your plot for the food bank. Rotting produce in garden plots is unacceptable. By gardening with the Golden Community Garden you are accepting responsibility for your assigned garden plot.
I accept responsibility for my plot's irrigation and maintenance. *
DUG requires that water restrictions and conservation practices be followed. This means you must remain on the premises while your garden is being watered, unless a drip irrigation system is in place. If a drip system is used, you will maintain it and use garden-approved watering times. You will not overwater your plot. You accept responsibility for your plot's irrigation and maintenance.
Please be sure that your plot is not overwatered.
If there is a leak, your timer will be turned off until you fix the issue. You may fix yourself, or reach out to the irrigation crew for help. You MUST BE PRESENT if you've requested the help of the irrigation crew, so you can learn how to maintain your irrigation. If you've cut the tubing by digging, you are responsible for replacing it.
I will follow organic gardening practices in my plot. *
DUG policy prohibits the use of GE (GMO) seeds and non-organic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Miracle-Gro is NOT allowed in the GCG. Please check out the blog or resources for approved organic substances.
I will have my plot maintained by june 4th, with frost-sensitive plants by June 18th. *
Plots not maintained by June 2nd and/or June 16th for frost sensitive crops will be forfeited and reassigned. Absolutely no exceptions.
I will prepare my plot for the winter by November 1st, 2018 as required by DUG. *
All dead plants, weeds, garden decor, tools, sticks and cages are to be removed and stored by November 1.
I agree to not remove any garden infrastructure. *
If raised beds are built, the wood and bolts, etc. are to remain part of the garden. You may not build a plot and dismantle it if you decide you are finished gardening.
Garden committees shall not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, marital status, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, disability, or military status in membership or administration of programs. *
Garden Waiver *
I have read, understand, and agree to the terms and responsibilities as stated in the Gardener Waiver & Release: 1. I desire to participate voluntarily in the gardening and other activities sponsored and coordinated by DUG on the Golden Community Garden site. 2. I understand, accept, and assume the risks associated with participation in any and all activities. I also assume the responsibility of conducting myself in a civil manner that is mutually beneficial to all participants. Unacceptable conduct generally includes, but is not limited to, vegetable theft, tool theft, profanity, and any offensive behavior. 3. I assume full responsibility for any injuries which may occur to me, as well as the safety of my family and guests, and do hereby fully and forever discharge and release the community garden site landowner and DUG, its employees, board members, officers, agents, authorized volunteers, representatives, consultants, insurers and sureties, and their successors and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any "Claims." "Claims," as used in this document, mean any and all claims, demands, damages, rights of action or causes of action, present or future, whether the same be known, anticipated or unanticipated, resulting from or arising out of my presence or the presence of my family members and guests at the garden, activities at the garden, the use or intended use of the garden, and/or participation in activities connected with DUG including, without limitation, any of the foregoing resulting from or arising out of the negligence of a Released Party. Further, I hereby waive any and all Claims against a Released Party. 4. I expressly acknowledge that participation in the community garden is for my purposes and convenience and not for the purpose and convenience of any one or more of the Released Parties. 5. In the event that a dispute arises between gardeners or between a gardener(s) and the designated garden steering committee, and a resolution of the dispute cannot be reached by these parties, I agree to have DUG act as the arbitrator of the dispute, and I further agree to adhere to DUG's decision as final. I understand that the DUG is granting me a revocable license to participate in the Golden Community Garden, and such license may be revoked by DUG or the Garden Leadership at any time if I violate the Gardener’s Responsibilities set forth above.
